Hawke’s Brewing, a valued customer of Orora Cans, is committed to sharing “good honest beer” while honouring one of Australia’s most famous Prime Ministers, Bob Hawke.
Inspired by the question, “who would you most like to have a beer with?”, two homesick Australian friends living in New York founded Hawke’s Brewing to create a classic Australian beer blend that everyone loves. Their answer led them back home, to start a beer company with an iconic Australian Prime Minister and it was here that Hawke’s Brewing originated.
Co-founded by Bob Hawke himself, Hawke’s is an independent, Australian-owned brewery based in the heart of Sydney. Hawke’s Brewing captures the essence of classic Australian tasting beer, offering a range of Lagers, Pale, and XPA beers, all specially packaged in Orora’s Classic 375ml Cans.

Orora and Hawke’s Brewing have partnered together since 2019, when Hawke’s made the switch from traditional labels to digital cans. In partnership with the Decoration Centre of Excellence (DCE), Hawke’s Brewing meticulously designed their cans to pay tribute to the legacy of Bob Hawke. The cans are decorated with intricate illustrative elements that capture the essence of Hawke's contributions and personality. The centrepiece of the design is a detailed image that prominently features Bob Hawke's likeness, and the inclusion of the tagline “One for the Country” on the neck of the can, serves as a nod to Hawke's dedication to Australia.
The very fine key lining in the Hawkes logo/roundel pushed the technical boundaries of conventional printing. “Most recently when selecting inks for Hawke’s Half IPA we explored many colour combinations of green. It’s extremely challenging selecting light tones of a colour when printing on aluminium. No shortcuts were taken during this process and every ink available was explored and considered before landing on the final colours.”
More than just a beer
In 2022, Hawke’s Brewing expanded by opening the Bob Hawke Beer & Leisure Centre in Marrickville, NSW. The popular Sydney venue features an onsite brewery and the highly praised Lucky Prawn bistro, where local patrons go to enjoy a beer and meal with friends and family.

The centre pays homage to a unique period in Australian culture, combining elements of a 1980s pub and country-town Chinese-Australian bistro, that all encompasses a nostalgic time capsule that brings together a special experience for all.
Hawke’s ‘One for the Country’ is more than just a slogan; it's a commitment to driving change and supporting the community. So far, Hawke’s has raised over $450,000 for environmental causes, backing Landcare projects throughout Australia. Their efforts include reforesting areas affected by bushfires, protecting vulnerable native species, and supporting local groups near their brewery.
